Expedition through uncharted Tibet (Andreas von Heßberg & Waltraud Schulz)

Andreas von Heßberg und Waltraud Schulz have published another book over their world tours. They have both relied upon their trusty SPEEDHUBs 500/14 gear hubs to take them on their tours over the last 11 years.

Snippet from the jacket text:

The Chang Tang, the most northern highland from central Tibet belongs to the last group of wilderness regions on earth that have remained untouched by Menschen. Relatively little is known about this region which lies well outside the usual tourist trails. In the last 100 years, the Chang Tang has only been visited by singular persons from western cultural circles, Gabriel Bonvalot, Hamilton Bower or Sven Hedin are the most famous of these. Due to the extreme isolation of this area, we have over time been drawn to this region as our curiosity has increased. After approximately a year of intensive research it was time: For the next seven weeks we will be exploring the landscape of regions that have not yet been seen.

Our goal over the next seven week expedition would be to fight through the mostly route-free terrain, climbing two 6400m high mountains and to reach their summits: With just our own energy and with simple means it is possible to achieve this. The largest challenge that lay ahead would be the logistical handling of our provisions supply over the many weeks away from any form of shopping vacilities and the transportation of a complete alpine equipment. The landscape and breathtaking views included with the  unmerciless hardness of nature would be an ample reward for our efforts. Intensive Sunrays, icy cold, constant storms and the lonliness could not hold us back from reaching and overcome the mountains. Back in our daily world, one thing became clear: We would never forget the clear bright colours of the Tibeten highlands will remain in our hearts forever.

A tour report is available in paperback format (196 Seiten) with 27 coloured sides and includes 3 maps. Detailed appendix to the tour preparation and the equipment choice.
